How to Mount Rooftop Tent on 2023 Toyota Tacoma

Question:
I have a Yakima rooftop tent that I purchased to fit on a Mazda. However, I sold that car and now have a 2023 Toyota Tacoma and want to know how can I mount the tint on my truck? Also, I plan to get a hardshell camper on the back and was wondering is there a way to mount it on that or would it be better on the truck itself? Thank you very much, Sharon

Hey Sharon! It depends on the cab you have. If this is a double cab with raised rails you could add a roof rack like the Yakima TimberLine Roof Rack # Y42GD to hold your tent. That rail style will support a rooftop tent so the only thing you need to do is find the capacity of your roof to make sure it can handle it.
If you have the access cab a roof rack won't work for a rooftop tent. You could mount the tent on a camper shell like the Westin EXP Truck Topper # W86PT (5' bed) or # W53PT (6'bed). This has tracks so you can mount a standard roof rack or use something like the Westin Mesa Platform # W93FM.
The other option would be to use a truck bed ladder rack like the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-5768. Of course this means you wouldn't be adding the camper shell to the truck bed. If you decide to go this route and use a tonneau cover to protect your gear in the back, the Tonneau Cover Adapter Kit # Y01155 will allow you to mount this on a cover with rails as well.
