Is Yakima StepUp Swing Away Bike Rack Compatible With Yakima FlipFlop

Updated 07/28/2026 | Published 07/20/2026

Question:

I recently purchased the Yakima StepUp Swing 2inch receiver and the Yakima StraightShot from ET to haul my bikes behind a 2026 Ford Bronco Outer Banks with Sasquatch package. My interest in this particular hitch rack is to access the cargo area whilst the bikes are mounted. All went well during assembly and installation however, as I opened the rear door, the spare tire doesnt clear the top of the swing joint, and Im unsure if the FlipFlop will correct the problem, nor am I certain its compatible with the StepUp Swing. Yakimas website indicates compatibility, but only listing the StepUp 2ininch without mention if the Swinginch variety is included. My spare tire is an LT31570R17.

Hey David! They don't make it clear so I went ahead and reached out to Yakima to be sure. I just heard back from them and can confirm that the Yakima StepUp Swing Away Bike Rack # Y22RX is compatible with the FlipFlop # Y64MX. This will give you a 9" extension and then a 2-1/8" rise/drop to help clear that spare.

The extension alone may be enough for the spare to clear, in which case you could leave it in the rise position for additional ground clearance. If not, I'm sure the drop position will get it where you need it to clear the swing joint.

What kind of bikes are you carrying and where do you typically ride?
