How Do I Connect DC Power To The Norcold Polar Full RV Refrigerator NC63FR?

Question:

I have just purchased a Norcold NC63FR. This is a 12 volt DC refrigerator. Where can I see a picture of connecting DC power to the frig? Do I need a cord or can I use the 10 AWG marine cable I just ran to the opening where the frig will live?

Hey Chuck, thanks for reaching out. The Norcold # NC63FR doesn't use a plug-in power cord. It has a pair of DC input wires on the back of the refrigerator that are intended to be hardwired to your 12-volt system. If you've already run 10 AWG marine cable to the refrigerator opening, you're in good shape. You can connect that cable directly to the refrigerator's positive and negative leads using the appropriate connectors, making sure the circuit is protected by the correct fuse or breaker.

If you'd like to see exactly where those wires are located, the installation manual has a diagram showing the DC power connection on the rear of the refrigerator.

We replaced a second Dometic refrigerator with the same size Norcold. Very easy two wire 10 gauge connection. Ours is hardwired through our solar controller to the battery.

Three months ago, e-Trailer recommended a replacement with the Norcold Polar #NC63FR (8-cubic-foot) refrigerator for my RV, and it works exactly the way a fridge should. I connected it to the 12V battery two months ago and haven't turned it off since; it draws between 2 and 5 amps, the compressor is silent, and the freezer doesn't build up ice or frost, just a tiny bit of mist that quickly disappears. It keeps meat and ice cream frozen just right. I am very satisfied and happy. Thanks, e-Trailer; it’s always a pleasure to reach out for help and recommendations. I’ll never forget when I was in Alaska in 2024 and my air suspension broke on the Dalton Highway—you guys sent a replacement to Fairbanks for me and I went to Dempster Hwy. PS. Highly recommend to use 10awg wires connected to your fuse box.
