Looking For Smaller Tires And Wheels For 2017 Casita Independence Deluxe Trailer
Updated 07/20/2026 | Published 07/16/2026 >
Question:
I am looking for a 10 or 12 inch wheel 5 on 4.5 and tire to use on my Casita Trailer 2017 Casita Independence Deluxe currently with 5/4.5inch white spokes with Goodyear Marathon ST225/75R15. I need them so that I can move it into a garage with a short door opening. I only need a couple inches and, would prefer 10 inch if thats possible. The wheel and tire combo has to accommodate the brake drum but I dont know how to measure offset?. Plan on changing to the regular the 15inch wheels and tires for the road. Thanks in advance.

Hey Robert, thanks for reacing out. I don't think you're going to be able to get down to a 10" or 12" wheel on your Casita. With the ST225/75R15 tires you're running now, your trailer almost certainly has 10" electric brakes, and those require at least a 13" wheel to clear the brake drum and backing plate. The 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern is only part of the equation. Even if you found a 10" or 12" wheel with the correct bolt pattern, it still wouldn't clear the brakes.
If you're only looking to pick up a couple inches so you can squeeze into the garage, I think a 13" wheel and tire is going to be your best bet. That'll get the trailer lower while still clearing the brakes.
For example, the Kenda Karrier KR53 ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Silver Mod Wheel # KE35EV would fit over your current hubs. The ST175/80R13 are about 23.8" in diameter, while the ST225/75R15 are about 28" in diameter, so that swap would shave about 2" off the total height of the trailer.
Is 2" enough to clear the garage?
