Needing the Replacement Hardware for Curt Cargo Carrier

Question:

I bought the cargo carrier. The bolts that connect the plates to the two pieces don’t tighten before reaching specified torque. Not sure if they stripped or are spinning- afraid to take it off. I like it a lot but where can I get replacement hardware to ensure the carriers integrity?

Happy to help Michael, thanks for reaching out!

Currently we don't carry the replacement hardware kit for the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151, the quickest and easiest solution would be to source the replacement hardware from a local hardware store. I've attached the hardware list from the Curt installation instructions, it has the bolt sizes, torque specs and quantities you'll need.

When installing the new hardware, I'd recommend starting all of the bolts by hand to ensure they're threading correctly before using a wrench or socket. Tighten the bolts gradually in a cross pattern so the connecting plates pull together evenly. Use a torque wrench to tighten the hardware to the specifications in the instructions. Avoid using an impact wrench for the final tightening, as it can easily over tighten the hardware.

What do you use the cargo carrier to haul the most?

This unit bolts on to the back of my 5th Wheel where I do not use it all the time, however on large trips where I need the extra room, I fold it down. The only thing I wish it had was extra tail lights, however, those are available and should be an easy install.
