It's very sturdy. Accepts a pole or pipe up to 2 1/4" in diameter. There is a drain hole in the bottom, and I suppose you could cut or drill it out for a pole to be able to go through and sit on the ground. Our travel trailer has a 2" receiver in the back bumper, and I bought it to hold a pole to support ham radio antennas, a Meshcore repeater, etc., while we're camping. The included set screw is indeed too short, and it doesn't come with the pin to keep the adapter in the hitch.
