Question:

I have a 7x12 enclosed trailer with a 3500 lb axle. Is there a way to put a heavier axle and springs on the trailer? Do you sell this?

There sure is Jeffrey and we do! What we'll need to do is find a higher capacity axle and leaf springs with the same measurements.

If you'll take a look at the diagram I attached below for our Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles item # e45GR, you'll see two measurements. The 86-1/2" is the hub face and 71-1/2" is the spring center distance. You'll want to get these two measurements from your current axle.

To find the correct size leaf springs, you'll want to get all the weight off of your suspension and measure from the center to the center of the mounting eyes. Leaf springs tend to stretch out over years of use, so unless you can find a part number on them this is the best way to find new ones.

Why are you wanting to increase the capacity of your axle and leaf springs?

I had tandem Dexter 4400 LB axles under a 2021 camper (same spindles as a 3500 LB axle), the GVWR is 9000 LBs. I upgraded to these axles but the spring seats needed to flipped. Took both axles to a machine shop to cut the seats off and move them to the top side. These axles are a MAJOR improvement over the 4400 LBs since i switched from 10" to 12" drum brakes and I don't work about backing into hairpin spots anymore. The weakest component on the trailer, is the part with the least weight rating. If you upgrade the axle, don't outgrow the capacity of your frame or trailer weight tag (remember DOT officers don't have a sense of humor).

@JeffreyM You're welcome! Unfortunately, we do not do axle installations at our home location in Missouri but we do have a network of reputable installers I can get you connected to. If you go to the product page of the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles item # e45GR and scroll down below the pics on the left side you'll see a box that says, SCHEDULE AN INSTALLATION. Go ahead and click on it and it will take you to a page where you'll be able to enter your zip code.
