Upgrading Trailer Axle Capacity - Do I Need To Replace Both Axles?

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 09/07/2025

Question:

2020 Forest River Evo T2360 Rear tires wearing on the inside, have read the axles are barely rated for the weight of the trailer plus stuff. Each axle is rated for 3774 lbs I think. Seems the axle is now sagging, have already replaced springs and hardware, thinking about a 5200 lb rated axle.......do I need to replace both axles? Front tires wearing okay......thoughts?

Hello John, thanks for reaching out. If you will be upgrading your axle capacity, yes, you will need to replace both axles. Both axles must be equal.

It is pretty common for RV manufacturers to use axle that are underrated for the GVWR. They do this to cut costs, and because the axle technically don't bear the full weight of the camper. About 10%-15% of the trailer weight is on the hitch or the jack.

If you are wanting to look at new axles, I will need to know the hub face (HF) length and spring center (SC) distance for your axle. There should be a sticker on the axle that has this information. Let me know and I am happy to look into it and see if we have something for you.

Hey John, did you have a chance to find the hub face length and spring center distance for your axle? I'm happy to help you find the right solution once you have that information.
