Hey Monte, I attached a picture below that has the install instructions for the etrailer scissor jacks part # e56VV for you to check out. You actually would just need to use the jack's mounting bracket as a template. What are you installing this on?

I am mounting on a 26' travel trailer. I can do what you said. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't overlooking the template mentioned in the instructions somewhere.

I bought these scissor jacks to replace the damaged ones on my camper. I unthreaded the old nuts and bolts, then removed the old jacks and installed the new one. It was really easy.
