Installing The Blue Ox 6-pole Trailer Wiring Socket for Vehicle End

Updated 07/15/2026 | Published 06/29/2026

Question:

I purchased the Blue Ox baseplate for my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4XE. I ordered the BLU43XR wiring socket but when I try and install it, it will fit flush to the base plate mounting bracket. Due to the plastic cover on the back it angles forward when you try and mount it. I am adding pictures to show the issue.

Thank you for the photos William, happy to help!

You're correct, the Blue Ox 6-Pole Trailer Wiring Socket should sit flush. From your photos the rear housing of the socket need to be seated further away from the baseplate. I'm believe there's hardware that's need to get the 6-way socket in the correct position.

I checked the Blue Ox Base plate # BX1139 installation instructions, and the baseplate should have included the electrical mounting bracket item #16 and the hardware item #'s 7, 9, 10, 11, and 13 for mounting a 6-way socket # BLU43XR.

What are you using to tow the Jeep Wrangler?

this probably won't help much, but the folks who installed my fixture and the cut-away brake switch put in on bottom grill for ease of access on my 2017 jeep grand cherokee. althought it is easy to access we did smash the old one last year at Watkins Glen

I received a response from someone else at etailer that the mounting bracket where the 6 way socket is mounted was welded on incorrectly to the tow bar. There should be no overhang of the mounting brackets over the rear of the tow bar. This is the reason the socket sits too far back on the tow bar. They are telling me that I need to get spacers to add to the back of the socket to create more distance. Disappointing that I have to go find spacers myself when I paid over $600 for the tow bar. No discount was offered as well. Not great customer service in my opinion.
