Best Way To Carry A Spare Tire And Haul A Cargo Trailer With 2" Hitch On A Ford E450 Motorhome

Updated 07/01/2026 | Published 06/27/2026

Question:

Hiiiiiiiiiii I have a Ford E450 motorhome with a rear trailer hitch already on the rear. Apparently there is a spare tire carrier hitch that fits into the hitch on the motorhome ,but I can still pull a cargo trailer behind. It would be much appreciated if there is such a thing and you have some information on it .

Hey Randy, welcome back. So Roadmaster does make a hitch mounted spare tire carrier part # RM-195225 which has a 2" receiver on the back end. The problem is this is only for flat towing a vehicle or using a hitch mounted accessory like a cargo carrier or bike rack. It is not rated for trailer towing.

If you need to carry a spare tire, and tow a cargo trailer at the same time, the best way to do that is with the following:

- Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2" Hitch - 7-1/2" Drop - 10K # GY49PR

- etrailer Spare Tire Mount for Hitch - 2" Hitch # e98ZR

These Gen-Y ball mounts are great and super versatile. They have stacked receivers so you can use the ball mount attachment in one of the lower receivers to hook up the trailer, then put a hitch mounted spare tire carrier in the uppermost receiver. I'd just want you to make sure the 7-1/2" of drop is enough to keep your trailer level. They do sell these in different configurations if needed. It gives you like 10" between the top and bottom receivers which should be plenty of room to avoid any clearance issues. That'll be the safest, most secure way of doing what you are trying to do.

What kind of trailer do you haul?
