Question:

I have a 2021 Grand Design Reflection 150 278BH. It came with a Lippert Turning Point pin box. I do not use the turning point feature, so the pin box is locked in place. I would like to replace the Turning Point pin box with a dampened gooseneck adapter - fifth wheel trailer to gooseneck hitch. What device would fit my trailer?

Hey David, thanks for reaching out. Yes, we do have a cushioned gooseneck pin box that will work great for replacing the turning point pin box on your 2021 Grand Design Reflection 150 278BH. Here is what I recommend:

These Gan-Y gooseboxes are super solid. They use torsion rubber to absorb shock, so you get the dampening/cushioning with virtually no maintenance. This one works with pin weights between 1,500 lbs an 4,500 lbs so you camper will be right in that sweet spot.

Since you are switching over to gooseneck, the Safety Chain Kit # GY49GR will also be required. I also recommend grabbing a new bolt kit part # GY86FR.

Do you already have a gooseneck ball in the bed of your truck?

I have a 2021 Grand Design 295RL fifth wheel which had a turning point pin box the only option for a cushioned pin box was the Gen-Y gooseneck pin box I also got the Gen-Y 5” setback goose ball. This combo works great it is much quieter than the king pin setup and the gooseball is a much tighter fit resulting in no chucking. Love it.

I have over 20k mikes on my 22 gd 150 260rd and its great. Must have the 5” offset mentioned by Gerry if you have a short bed truck.

Jesse: Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, my truck has a pocket for a gooseneck ball. It is the standard Ford puck system with gooseneck holder. I looked at the current turning point pin box and see that it is bolted to the frame with a row of four bolts on each side. In addition, the frame has an additional row of four threaded bolt holes above the threaded bolt holes in use with the turning point pin box. Will the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box use both rows of bolt holes in the frame (16 versus 8 for the current turning point pin box)? Do you have a dimensional drawing of the Gen-Y Hitch? I want to check to see how high off the truck bed the trailer would be with the Gen-Y Hitch. Thanks, Dave Sheffield

@DavidS Hey David. The Gen-Y pin box will use the row of 4 bolts on each side. It would not use the additional threaded holes for the turning point pin box. Also, we do have a drawing with the dimensions. There isn't a way to add pictures to the comments on here (yet), but if you take a look at the answer page in this link you can see the drawing:
