Question:

C.E. Smith spare tire carrier for boat trailer. Im looking for a tire lock set to secure the spare tire AND the spare tire mount. Are the bolts holding the bracket and the tire the same thread size? Will a 1/2inch lockset fit both? Trailer is a 2012 Karavan single-axle boat trailer with swing tongue. Thank you.

Hey Jim, the u-bolt thread diameter of the CE Smith Offset Spare Tire Mount # CE27310G that you referenced is smaller in diameter than the bolts that hold the wheel to the mount so the same lock between the two would not work. What about using like a cable lock like the part # TMX85SR to lock the wheel and spare to your trailer frame?

I used a cable lock for securing both my tire and the tire mount bracket to the trailer. This works fine for me. The bolts for mounting the tire are the same as the lug bolts/nuts for a vehicle. I have a DeWalt battery operated impact driver with a set of impact sockets in my truck for changing the trunk spare tire and the trailer spare tire lug nuts.
