Do Torklift Camper Tie Downs Require Using Spring Loaded Tie Downs

Question:
Do the rear points of a truck camper need springs or can I tie it down immobile while keeping springs on the front? Have hit hiway bumps twice and had my camper hit my roof and break the forklift xl. So now I have two broke ones and must replace them with something. Have the frame kit and trailer is a hs 8801 weight 2750. Truck 25 Ford F350lb crew.Thank you.

Hey William, If you have a Torklift tie down setup for your camper you would want to use turnbuckles that have springs built in like the Torklift Basic SpringLoad part # TLS9000 that you referenced on all four corners. What tie downs do you have?

I have a Lance 950s that I carry in a Chevy 3500 dually. I run the spring to downs on all 4 corners just to allow for things to twist around without creating excessive stress that would lead to cracks or other damage. Regarding your camper hitting the roof of your truck, I don’t think spring loaded anchors are the answer. I have to use a 5/4 pressure treated frame in the bed with a 1” structural foam insulation panel in the center to pick my camper up high enough to clear the antenna shark fin on the roof of my truck. With that setup I’ve been able to drive across the Indiana interstate highways (they redefine atrocious) without the camper suffering for it. The frame on my trailer wasn’t so lucky.

Yes, you do need springs. The ones we purchased came with the springs already attached. I purchased TorkLift Basic SpringLoad Turnbuckles for Camper Tie-Downs - Qty 2 Part Number: TLS9000 It was a perfect fit. Traveled to Alabama from New York without any issues.

As stated,torklift xl
