Differences Between Coil Springs for 2016 Toyota Highlander

Updated 06/30/2026 | Published 06/21/2026

Question:

Hi there. I have a 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE. I am perusing your site for Sumo springs custom helper springs. I noticed several products all appearing the same in the photos for drastically different prices. I noticed coil sumo springs priced at 246.00, and 186.99. Also 206.99. Why the difference in price when they all say coil sumo springs for the highlander? I am confused as to the correct ones to purchase on your site. Please assist. Thanks Rob Tait. Hamilton Ontario.

Hey Rob,

I totally understand the confusion. The photos and models do look very similar, but there is a difference between each model and how they fit on a 2016 Toyota Highlander, and it will require you taking a measurement before purchasing.

Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension - Rear Axle # CSS-1145R is the only rear axle coil spring for your vehicle and will not fit on a Hybrid model of 2016 Toyota Highlander.

Both # CSS-1195F and # CSS-1168F are designed for the front axle, but the difference is in the measurements on your front coil springs. # CSS-1195F will only work on your Highlander if the space between the coils is between 1-11/16" and 1-7/8".

If the space between the coils is between 1-7/16" and 1-5/8", then # CSS-1168F is the correct fit for your vehicle. This model will not fit with Hybrid models of the 2016 Toyota Highlander.

All of these options are a great option to give your vehicle better load support, but the measurements on those front coils is crucial to make sure you have the correct fit and best results.

I have used the 1145R on two vehicles, my 2018 Toyota Highlander, 3.5L which was unfortunately written off after an accident. My replacement vehicle is now a 2021 Highlander Platinum 3.5L and I used exactly the same Sumo Springs on it as well. Both vehicles have exhibited a 2” rise after these springs are installed with my small RPod travel trailer hooked up and camping gear loaded. I know my tongue weight as I measure it each time to keep it around 300lbs. Add to that all of my additional camping gear in the Highlander plus two people which means the vehicle is fairly well loaded. These springs have been a game changer for me, i definitely recommend them. Very easy to install..

@BarryK That's awesome, I'm glad you like them enough to have purchased them twice! I really like that RPod trailer. Where have you been camping with it? We're in Missouri and have a lot of fun spots to visit around the state.

I have a Highlander XLE AWD. I purchased the overpriced Sumo spacers, but I haven’t decided that I actually need them, as I’m not currently pulling a trailer. I do recommend the following: - Rough Country N3 Shocks - ReadyLift SST lift kit - Falken Wildpeak 4W tires ( 265/60/18 114T).

@Jwebb Thanks for your feedback. I'm interesting in the products that you listed. Could you tell me more about them and why you prefer them over the others? I'd be happy to pass that along to our Product team.

@JerryB The tires mentioned are great for light to mid off-roading. I just returned from a week in Colorado. The tires handled extremely well on wet roads, and when cornering the mountain roads. The tires are larger than the OEM tires and are rated as XL, which greatly reduced tire roll and better support the extra weigh from my camping gear. The mentioned shocks seem to support the additional weight and offer a longer working range when off roading. The mentioned lift kit added and attractive stance t my Highlander which increased the ground by 2 inches and allowed more clearance for the new tires. I also had an after-market rear camber/toe kit installed, as well as cam bolts for the front struts. After all of my camping gear was in my car, plus the gear in my roof rack, i did noticed that the rear suspension was slightly lower than the front. If I had installed the Sumo spacers, then I’m sure that the rear suspension would have remains level with the front.

We put a set on a Toyota Highlander 2017. In anticipation of a two week road trip with four adults, we put a rack in the hitch receiver and loaded it up. We have nothing to say but good things, the ride was excellent. Even when not loaded we have no criticism. Neville

@Neville Nice! Two weeks on the road can be a lot, so it's great that these coil springs were able to fix you up and take away that sag. How far was your trip? Was there a final destination in mind, or did you just set out and keep on going?
