Question:

I’m considering upgrading my drum brakes on my fifth wheel RV 2023 Grand Design Reflection 295RL with Curt 5,100 lb axles with ABS. Which disc brake upgrade kits do you offer?

Hello Steve,

Apologies for the long delay. It took quite a bit longer than expected to get your bearing numbers from Curt. I guess they really didn't want you to lose the ABS capabilities, even though you were okay with it!

I was able to confirm that your inner bearing 122066 crosses to a 25580 bearing with a 1.750" inner diameter, and your outer bearing 122091 crosses to a 15123 bearing with a 1.250" inner diameter.

Based on those bearing numbers, the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit with Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # DE24NR is the correct kit for your 2023 Grand Design Reflection 295RL with Curt 5,100 lb axles.

This is a complete conversion kit, so it includes the hub and rotor assemblies, calipers with mounting brackets, bearings, races, grease seals, grease caps, lug nuts, hydraulic brake lines and fittings, the electric-over-hydraulic actuator, and the breakaway kit. Since everything is designed to work together, you won't have to piece the system together from separate components.

Installation does require removing your existing hubs and brake assemblies before installing the new hub and rotor assemblies, calipers, hydraulic lines, and actuator. You'll also need to wire the actuator into your trailer's electrical system and bleed the hydraulic brakes before putting the trailer back into service. It's a fairly straightforward installation if you're comfortable working on trailer brakes, but it's definitely a project that takes some time.

What brake controller are you using in your tow vehicle? I just want to make sure it's compatible with an electric-over-hydraulic braking system.

Thank you. My brake controller is the OEM controller in my 2019 Ford F-250. I’ve been informed that it is compatible with an electric-over-hydraulic braking system.

@SteveR Yes it is. You will be very pleased when you make the swap to the disc brakes. Your brakes on your F-250 might even get a little longer life out of them.
