Will TowSmart Trailer Hitch for 2021 Honda CR-V Increase Towing Capacity

Question:

2021 Honda CR-V 1.5L specs say this vehicle towing capacity is 1,500 pounds. This hitch is rated at 4,500 pounds. Will this safety increase my towing capacity?

Hey John, this is a great question but the short answer is no it will not increase your towing capacity. So hitch capacities are determined after they are designed to fit the vehicle and be as strong as possible so they end up with a separate typically higher weight rating. And since a towing setup is only as strong as it's weakest component using this hitch would not give you more capacity than what the vehicle has. What are you planning on towing?

Two-place jet ski trailer with a pair of smaller jet skis. I estimate the combined towing weight to be less than 1,500#. I was just curious if I had more capacity for a smaller boat but it doesn’t appear so. Thank you for your response.

Also double check the installation instructions. It had the wrong bolt and nut sizes listed therefore the wrong torque foot pound settings for the smaller nuts.
