How Can I Prevent My Gen-Y Drop Receiver Shank from Scraping on the Ground?

Updated 06/23/2026 | Published 06/19/2026

Question:

Will this work on a Gen-Y GH-305 down hitch receiver? To maintain the 3” level for my Roadmaster tow set-up between my Windsport 35M and my Maverick, I have to down. But now the receiver has dragged over a couple of places. From another source, I ordered another style but the opening is about 1/8” too tight to fit.

Hello Larry,

Thanks for writing in!

It works!

I found some mixed information on whether the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector # RM-050 would work with the Gen-Y shank # 325-GH-305, so I did what any curious trailer nerd would do and headed out to our warehouse to check for myself. I pulled both parts and tested them together, and they fit great. I've attached a few pictures so you can see exactly how it looks installed.

One thing to keep in mind is that the # RM-050 uses the lower receiver opening. So if you're already using that lower receiver for your tow bar setup, you won't be able to use both at the same time.

Getting things geared up for the next adventure? Where are you headed to this time, or better yet what has been your favorite trip of all time?
