Question:

Hello, I have a 2011 Forest River, Viking Epic 2407st VK5003337 Pop up camper, I would like to mount a rear hitch to the frame for a bike rack for my wife’s e-bike about 60lbs Please let me know if this is possible and what hitch I would need. Thank you

Hi Chris!

In cases like this, I always recommend the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703. It fits dang near everything and has plenty of capacity for carrying an e-bike. That said, you will definitely need to measure your frame to make sure this will fit.

The only other way to go is with something like the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # E-100 for a 4"x4" bumper or the # C19101 for a 4"x2" bumper. I couldn't tell if the 2011 Forest River Viking Epic 2407ST came with a bumper or not, but it is a much less expensive option. You just need to make sure you have a bumper before going this way.

If none of those options are looking viable, we do have one other way to go. The Flint Hill Goods Ball Mount w/ 2" Receiver - 2" Hitch - 2-1/4" Drop 5k # FHG75VR would replace your current ball mount and it has a 2nd hitch attached to it so you can add an accessory, like a bike rack. It does put the bike rack up fairly high, but it is an option. Plus with this, you don't have to worry about the bike rack being rated for a trailer.

On that note, do you already have the bike rack?

I installed the adjustable width trailer hitch by bolting on to the frame of a 2024 Jayco WhiteHawk. I am using it to carry (2) e-bikes and one is heavy with fat tires. 2 years now no issues.

Hi Chris, We love the Curt 13703 adjustable hitch. Installed on a 2019 Imagine specifically for carrying or e-bikes (65 and 70lbs). It was an easy installation and had performed exceptionally well. I’ve left a few comments on here for others, you could look for those along with this one. Highly recommended.

@GordonC Those are some heavy e-bikes! What kind of rack are you using to carry them?
