Recommended Weight Distribution System for a Trailer w/a 350 lbs Tongue Weight

Published 06/14/2026

Question:

My TV has a max tongue weight capacity of 350. I plan to pull a small tear trailer with loaded tongue weight of 340 or just under the TV max. I would like to add a WDH to level out the vehicles and stabilize handling. Will the WDH add to the trailer tongue weight and put me over the TV tongue max or will the weight distribution negate the addition? Also would your recommend the C95MJ or another WDH for this scenario? thanks yall

Hey John, thanks for the information! For a trailer with a 350 lbs tongue weight, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37060ET. This system works with tongue weights between 200 lbs - 600 lbs so it'll definitely work well for your trailer. It won't be overcapacity or provide a stiff uncomfortable feeling like the Curt you referenced will.

Curt makes some great products but their weight distribution systems aren't very effective in addressing sway. I wouldn't recommend their weight distribution systems.

The actually weight of the Equal-i-zer item # EQ37060ET does not add to the tongue weight. The weight of the system is distributed to the front axle.

The Equal-i-zer item # EQ37060ET has built in four point sway control that will keep your trailer in line with your tow vehicle when you're going down the highway and make a sudden lane change or get passed by a semi. It's really helpful when you get sideswiped by a gust of wind too. This system includes a 2" shank and a 2-5/16" hitch ball.

Please note you will need room on your trailer's coupler between 27" - 32" back from where the hitch ball mounts. This is for the sway control brackets.

What kind of trailer do you have?
