Hi Ron,

I'm personally a fan of going a little overkill when it comes to locking up a trailer so it doesn't get stolen, so I recommend using the Blaylock Industries EZ Lock Trailer Coupler Lock for 2" and 2 5/16" hitch balls part # BLTL-20-40D. It's an aircraft grade, all aluminum heavy duty coupler lock that fits all the way around the trailer's coupler to secure it. It also includes a stainless steel padlock with hardened steel shackle that secures it in place and has two keys.

The Curt Universal Trailer Coupler Lock part # C28VV works similarly with a U-bolt that fits around the coupler and secures into the lock base. It's constructed of hardened-steel and powder coated with a bright orange finish to increase visibility. It is still a sturdy and reliable coupler lock that will fit your purpose, it will come down to how much security you think your trailer will need in the area it's left in.

Where do you usually launch your kayak from?
