What is the Distance from the Hitch Pin Hole to the Safety Chain Loop Bracket?

Updated 05/21/2026 | Published 05/16/2026

Question:

Hi, Quick question on your hitch e75ZR for my 2021 Toyota Highlander. My hitch rail takes bolts instead of the pin. Is there enough room for the heads of the bolts next to the safety chain plates, they look close to the holes? Thanks!

Hi William,

I went out to the warehouse to measure the hitch receiver tube and there is about 3/4" of space from the center of the hitch pin hole to the safety chain bracket loop plate. I recommend measuring the head of the bolt that is used for your hitch rail to make sure that it will fit within that 3/4" space.

What hitch accessory are you planning on using with the hitch?

I'm using a dirt bike carrier. I received the hitch today and the bolts I'm using have a 22mm head. They fit flat without scraping the angled safety chain plates. All good!

There is a weld at that seam that reduces the distance from the EDGE of the pin hole to the weld on the safety chain plate to just under 1/4” Depending on the type of bolt being used, it will be tight, but you could always grind off a little of the bolt head. Could be hard to get a nut on there - it will be close. Adding a few lock washers will bring you farther out on the weld and provide more clearance.

@Vic The addition of lock washers is a great idea to help get more clearance. Thank you for sharing your experience with the hitch with us :)
