Question:
I have a 2020 Grand Design Transcend Xplor 243BH. My Dometic Water heater went out and I am looking for a replacement. With so many to choose from I am asking for assistance finding a direct replacement that will fit the space already. Thanks

Hello Kenneth,
Thanks for writing in.
I don’t have a database that shows exactly what was installed in every camper, but based on my research, your 2020 Transcend Xplor 243BH most commonly came with a 6-gallon Dometic (Atwood-style) water heater. Because of that, the Dometic # DMC43RR you’re looking at is going to be your best replacement.
This unit is designed to match the standard Atwood 6-gallon footprint, with a cutout around 12-5/8 inches tall by 16-1/4 inches wide and about 20-1/2 inches deep, so it should fit right into your existing opening without modification. The gas line, 12V ignition, and water connections are also in the typical locations for a pretty straightforward swap.
It’s still a good idea to double check the model number on your current water heater just to be safe. If you see something like GC6AA-10E, you’re in great shape for a direct fit.
Getting things all back in working order for the next adventure? What trip are you looking most forward to this summer?
