Question:
The friction sway bar ball to ball distance is to be 24 inches - how much more or less can I go with that distance when mounting the ball on the trailer frame.

Hey Tim! The goal is to get as close as possible to that 24" measurement when installing the Shocker Sway Control Friction Arm Bar # SHK27YR. According to Shocker Hitch, the full range is 22" - 26" so you need to keep it mounted inside of that range for it to function properly.
If you aren't installing it at the 24" mark you need to make sure the bar clears the jack and your bumper through full turns. You also need to make sure the bar doesn't bottom out or overextend on turns/dips. Set the tension on the conservative side to start, then dial it in with small adjustments with a test drive.
