Question:
Does the Maxxair cover seal against the roof so bugs cant get under it or do I have to instsll a seal ring? You would think the bug screen would come weith the cover. Does the screen reduce sir flow?

Hello again Bruce,
Thanks for the question!
The MaxxAir II RV and Trailer Roof Vent Cover w/ EZClip - White # MA76JR is not designed to seal to the roof, and that is actually intentional. It sits above the vent with open space so you still get strong airflow, which is what keeps your RV from getting hot and stuffy.
For bugs, the protection does not come from the cover itself. Your roof vent should already have a built-in interior screen, and that is what keeps insects from getting into the RV. As long as that screen is in good shape, you should not have an issue with bugs getting inside.
You are right that the cover does not include a screen. It is made to work with the one already in your vent. If your current screen is missing or worn out, replacing it or upgrading to a finer mesh screen is the best way to improve bug protection. Some people also add an extra screen under the cover in high-bug areas, but most setups do not need that.
As for airflow, a standard bug screen will not noticeably restrict it, so you can still get good ventilation.
You could try to add a seal, but it is not recommended. Sealing the cover would restrict airflow and trap heat and moisture, and it still would not replace the need for a proper vent screen.
So you will not need a seal ring, and you will not end up with a stuffy setup. With a good vent screen in place, you will have solid airflow and reliable bug protection.
Did you end up going with the Timbrens? Where do you mainly camp? I moved here to Missouri from California quite some time ago, I am still not used to the weird bugs they have there.
