Safely Hauling a 650 lb Motorcycle with a Fleetwood Evolution E2 and Ram 1500

Hi Ken, great question.

You won’t be able to safely carry a 650 lb motorcycle on that front deck since it’s only rated for around 150 lbs, so the best and safest way to do this is loading the bike in the truck bed.

With your Ram 1500, a setup that will feel stable and controlled is using a properly rated loading ramp like part # FHG73ZR to get the bike into the bed, securing the front wheel in a chock such as the Tow-Rax Removable Wheel Chock part # TWSPWC, and then tying it down with heavy-duty straps like the ShockStrap Ratchet Tie-Down Straps with shock absorbers part # 297-9RSDB, which help maintain consistent tension and reduce movement from bumps in the road.

The chock can be mounted using hardware like part # TWPH2770, which does require drilling into the truck bed for a solid attachment, but it gives you a much more secure base so the bike isn’t shifting while you’re towing. This approach keeps the weight low and centered in the truck, avoids overloading the trailer or hitch, and helps your whole setup feel planted instead of stressed.

I think you are confused with the e1.. that's 200lbs, front cargo. e2 is 800 lbs, and tongue weight 400lbs. That's why I need a edh, weight distribution hitch.

@Ken Hey Ken, I appreciate you calling that out and you’re absolutely right, I was thinking of the E1 when I gave that first answer. Thanks for sticking with me on that. With the E2’s front deck rated around 800 lbs, your 650 lb motorcycle is within capacity, so carrying it up front is definitely an option. From what I can find, the E2 does come with D-ring tie-down points on the front deck, so you’re already set up there just make sure they’re in good condition before loading up. The tie-down straps I mentioned will still work great for securing it, especially on a trailer where you’ll see a bit more movement than in a truck bed. You may still want to add a wheel chock to help keep the bike stable, just keep in mind that will require drilling into the deck and mounting it to a reinforced section. Another option is something like the B&W Biker Bar, which gives you a solid attachment point for the bike without needing straps but it would still require drilling in to the deck. If you are interested in the B&W Biker bar, I would need to know which motorcycle you are carrying. And you’re on the right track with a weight distribution hitch. I’d recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37060ET because that built-in 4-point sway control does a really good job keeping things stable especially with that added weight up front. The brackets will fit a 5" frame, but you’ll want to make sure there’s no interference on the A-frame about 27" to 32" back from the center of the coupler. The shock straps are highly recommended! They are the best straps I've used on a trailered load to this date. I've used them on cargo loads, haul off loads, scrap loads, junk loads & waste loads as well as hauling equipment & vehicles. Not an issue on anything I've used.
