Can a Power Station Handle a 12V Air Conditioner Through a Converter?

Question:

This is gonna sound foolish but here we go. I’ve bought an elite 300 power station with a charger 2 from Bluetti without doing my homework well enough. The problem is that I want to power a outequipt 12v ac and with the dc hub the capacity is 50 amps. The ac runs from 21 to 58 amps. As dumb as this sounds my thinking was to plug in the ac to dc converter to the ac output of the elite 300. Even if I had to get another elite 300 to be able to run the ac longer. So my question is it feasible to run the converter off of a power station so the converter will power a 12v ac running continuously?

Hey Greg, thanks for reaching out. Yeah, you can make that work, but it’s kind of a roundabout way to do it. The Elite 300 has enough inverter to run a solid AC-to-DC converter, and that converter can feed your 12V AC unit as long as it’s sized right. You’d want something in the 1000W range with plenty of headroom so it can handle startup and higher draw without struggling.

The downside is you’re going DC to AC and back to DC, so you lose efficiency and runtime. It’ll run, but you won’t get as much out of the battery as you could. A second Elite 300 would just extend runtime, not fix that. If you want the cleanest setup, a dedicated 12V lithium battery bank is still the better way to do it, but what you’re thinking isn’t crazy, it’s just not the most efficient route.
