Can I Use Universal Demco Recon Stealth Gooseneck Ball To Fifth Wheel Hitch In 2023 Silverado 2500?

Published 04/09/2026

Question:

I’ve already got a gooseneck ball in my 2023 Silverado 2500. Do I need the truck-specific kit like DM82SJ, or can I just use the hitch-only version? Pulling grand design 5th wheel rv

Hey Brian, you can use either one - as long as your truck has a factory gooseneck ball or an aftermarket ball that matches OEM height 4" or 5", the hitch will fit and tow the same.

The hitch itself is identical between the # DM63UV and the # DM82SJ. Same head, same base, same connection point.

The reason the # DM82SJ is vehicle-specific is because of the MOLLE panel mounting brackets. Those brackets are designed to match the front wall of specific truck beds, so the storage panel installs cleanly and securely. That’s the only real difference - you’re getting a built-in storage solution for the hitch when it’s not in use.

One other thing to keep in mind is bed length. This is a fixed non-sliding hitch, so it’s best suited for long bed trucks. If you’ve got a short bed, you’ll want to make sure your trailer has a tapered front cap or enough clearance for tight turns.

So it comes down to:

# DM63UV > hitch only
# DM82SJ > same hitch + MOLLE panel with truck-specific mounting brackets

Are you running a long bed, and do you want to store the hitch in the truck when it’s not in use, or pull it out completely?
If you have short bed truck instead, you may need a slider hitch if your RV doesn't have tapered front end.
