How to Determine the Correct Replacement Grease Seals for a Trailer

Question:

Will re-pack my bearings on rv. Need to replace grease seals. As best as I can measure, the O.D. is: 3 7/16 inches. I.D. is: 2 7/16 inches. Which seals to buy?

Measuring running gear parts such as seals or bearings requires an accurate measurement to the thousandth inch. This would require dial or digital calipers. Or, since it sounds like you have the hub off already, and because seals can be hard to measure, I can determine the correct seals by the bearing numbers stamped into the inner and outer bearings.
