Are Dexter 23-112-113 Brakes and Dexter hub 42866UC3 Compatible?

Hello I have a M1102 trailer with 8-6.5 hubs. do these part number work together 23-112-113 and 42866UC3 thanks

Hey Jesse, great question and you’re absolutely right to double check this before putting anything together.

Yes, the part # 23-112-113 brake assemblies and the part # 42866UC3 hub and drum are compatible with each other. They’re both built around the same 12 inch by 2 inch brake size, so from a brake to hub standpoint, they’re designed to work together.

Where you’ll want to pause and confirm is the bearings inside the hub match your spindle, since that’s what really determines whether everything fits your M1102 correctly. The 42866UC3 hub uses an inner bearing 25580 and outer bearing 14125A along with a GS-2250DL seal. The most accurate method is to pull one of your hubs off and check the bearing numbers stamped right on the bearings themselves. You’ll usually find those numbers etched into the metal, and that will tell you exactly what you’re working with. You’ll also want to confirm you have a standard 5 bolt brake mounting flange on the axle for the brake assemblies to attach to.

As long as those spindle specs line up, you’ll be in good shape with this combination and should end up with a solid, reliable braking setup without any surprises during install.

I am pulling a 7500-8000 pound trailer and the brakes work great. I was a little concerned when installed (simple installation) as the magnets didn't seem to grab. But a few stops and they settled in. Don't forget to repack those bearings at the same time.

@TomW This is a great example of what others can expect after installation, so I really appreciate you sharing that. You’re absolutely right about the break-in process too, it can take a few firm stops for everything to seat properly and start working at its best. It can seem concerning at first! I'm glad everything worked out :)

Thank you for your response. I will definitely verify the bearing first. The trailer will have highway and off road use, I wanted to switch to electric brakes and still keep the parking brake functionality still, as it carries my RTT and want to keep it from moving a lot with just wheel chocks. @JesseP Ahh gotcha, that makes perfect sense now. Since the M1102 already has that parking brake setup, those Dexter parking-brake-ready assemblies are a great choice.
