Looking For Black Mini Fridge With Freezer To Replace Dometic 2551

Question:

Hello, Im in search of a 12V DC/110 RV refrigerator/freezer. Im replacing a Dometic 2551 that supposedly measures 43-7/16 x 24-7/8 x 24-5/8. Must be black. I saw a vitifrigo that would fit but its only available in grey. Any other ideas for a replacement?

Hello Gary, thanks for reaching out. That specific fridge you mentioned is only available in grey, but we do have one in black that is very close to your measurements. Take a look at the following:

This measures 43-1/8" tall, 21-1/4" wide and 22-1/4" deep. With the flange it is 43-9/16" tall and 23-1/8" wide. So it sounds like this will fit nicely in your cutout, its just slightly smaller than what you have now.

What kind of RV is this going in? Are the rest of your appliances black?

I have that Vitrifrigio DP150 12v fridge in black. I replaced a Norcold unit with the same dimensions as your Dometic with it and all I had to do was add a couple 1” x 1 1/2” wood strips because the new fridge is narrower. The fridge has been working well for me for about 18 months full time. I suggest installing it someplace where you have a table saw to rip the right size wood for the opening, otherwise it went in fairly easily for one person.

I bought the DP150i about a year ago and absolutely love it. It runs solely on 12VDC ( The RV I built has 300A of Lithium Ion battery. The Vitrifrigo is very efficient and has been in use with zero problems.

I also replaced a Dometic 2551 with the Vitrifrigo DP150i. The Vitrifrigo was a 1/2" taller so I had to slightly modify the cabinet in my 2017 Airstream by raising the microwave cabinet floor and trimming the refrigerator cabinet face. It was narrower also so the 1"x1.5" trim strips were necessary. The install went well and the refrigerator has performed perfectly, though during these winter months we have only taken our trailer out a couple of times. We have boondocked both times and the refrig has not drained our 2-lithem battery with solar set up over a 3 day weekend. We are eager to see how much effect the summer temps have on its performance.

@GerryV Gerry, really appreciate you sharing the install details. That is great info on the height difference and trim work for anyone swapping from the Dometic. Sounds like you handled the cabinet mods cleanly. Good to hear the DP150i has been performing well and not draining the battery over a long weekend with solar. That is always the big question.
