Hey Scott! To rewire your 2001 Legend gooseneck trailer I recommend using the etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # e99011 along with the 35 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness # A35W42B. The kit will give you a 7-way to hook into your truck plus the junction box to keep everything organized. You will cut off the end of the 4-way and tie it into the junction box, then run the wiring back to your lights.
What are you hauling with your trailer?

First of all the upgrade kit worked great buttttttt, the color code of the wiring inside the unit does not match to color codes of anything. I did not see anywhere of this issue not being addressed or emphasized. I assumed and finally figured out this to be the case, nothing matched to the wire colors codes Also, when doing this upgrade, make sure everyone addresses the grounding issues involved. I had this issue and to be frank, that's where you should start when wiring a new install on an older trailer. Redo the ground to make sure it is working . With out doing this, its a nightmare. I rewired the trailer with out it attached to the truck. I would suggest this because of the grounding issue. U would not see if its truly grounded correctly because of being connected. These are my suggestions and only mine If anyone can either agree or disagree please reach out.
