Is it Okay to Leave 12 Volt Pigtails Out After Install of Power Max Distribution Panel
Updated 03/02/2026 | Published 02/28/2026 >
Question:
Just purchased this to make a swap for failed WFCO. Im surprised by a couple things. I should have noticed the DC side pigtails coming from the back. Is it kosher to leave connections behind the panel? That goes against all my training and surprised to see that design Also, I have a 6 ga wire coming from my battery and an 8 ga pigtail coming from the panel. I worry about resistance and efficiency. Only about 20foot to battery from panel, so should be a short run. Anything I should be concerned about here? The old unit had lugs inside the panel for all this, so its not really the one-for-one swap I thought.

Hey Jason, as long as you tape up the wires in a way that makes the most sense and use your best judgment there's no reason you couldn't leave the pigtails out like you mentioned. For a 20 foot run 6-8 gauge wire is recommended at 45 amps so your setup will work fine using the mentioned wire.
I don't see your order notes with us for this panel but we do carry WFCO now so there might have been a super easy sway available.
