Replacing Factory Roof Vent With MaxxAir Fan On A 2018 Forest River R-Pod 179

Updated 02/26/2026 | Published 02/25/2026

Question:

I’ve got a 2018 Forest River R-Pod 179 and the factory vent in the kitchen barely moves air when we cook. I don’t necessarily want something super complicated with remotes and rain sensors, just something that actually circulates air better. Would this MaxxAir pivoting fan be a good upgrade?

Hey Darren, this is a really solid upgrade for your R-Pod.

Both the MaxxAir rooftop vents with fans ( # MA96WV - white lid and # MA36WV - smoked lid) replace your standard 14 inch x 14 inch vent and move up to 400 CFM, which is a big step up from most factory vents and fans. The pivoting 10 inch fan head is what really sets it apart - you can aim airflow instead of just pulling air straight up or down.

It’s manual lift, simple to operate, and only draws about 2.5 amps on 12V. Very simple but durable setup.

Are you typically cooking with windows open too, or relying mostly on roof ventilation? And do you have a range hood or anything like that? Most kitchens have one over the stove.

Thanks Andrew. I don’t have a range hood, just the factory roof vent. I’m comfortable swapping it out, but I wasn’t sure if I needed to buy extra sealant or if it comes with everything.

@Darren Good question, that isn't included so I recommend grabbing the roof vent install kit # 344270KITW which includes the butyl tape, screws, and sealant.
