2006 Winnebago View 24 Steps Not Staying Extended Override Switch Not Working

Updated 02/25/2026 | Published 02/22/2026

Question:

New to me RV2006 Winnebago View 24. The steps have always malfunctioned since I bought it. Specifically, the override rocker switch does nothing. The steps extend and retract every time the door is open or closed and will not stay in the deployed position no matter what the override switch is tellingfoot them. I checked the switch and it seems okay, but I noticed that the two wires feeding the switch both have 12 volts at all times. And, of course, they are both yellow and are untraceable behind the wall where the switch is mounted. I suspect Im not the first person messing with this wiring. I have crawled all over the web looking for what the voltage is supposed to be for the switch feed wires, whether my unit is supped to have this switch my manuals state that it is a 32 Series, and what the test procedure is for the switch itself. No joy. Can you please tell me whether my switch is powered correctly and how I would go bout finding the issue? Where is/are the fuses for the override switch located? I have watched every video there is on checking the 4-wire harness.

Hello Jim, thanks for reaching out. Yes, your 2006 Winnebago View 24 likely has Kwikee Series 32 steps. The override switch should keep the steps extended when the door is closed. Since your steps move in and out normally with the door but the switch does nothing, the control module is not seeing the override signal.

Seeing 12 volts on both yellow wires is normal, because the switch usually sends a ground signal back to the step controller. If flipping the switch does not change voltage or create a ground on one wire, the issue is likely a bad switch, missing ground, broken signal wire, or a failed control module.

Because the steps operate otherwise, the main fuse is almost certainly good. Unfortunately, I don't have a wiring diagram so I don't have a great way to tell you where those would be located, especially if the wiring has been worked on.

On 20-year-old camper, a failing control module is completely possible and would explain the issue. It's almost definitely that or a bad/broken/missing wire.
