Hey Daryl, I was able to confirm that the reverse light bulb type of your 2008 GMC Canyon is a 3157 so the backup light/alert part # HM20101VA that you referenced would work for your truck! Had any close calls when backing up?

Hi I bought a pair of these backup alert units and they worked great for about 2-3 years then I think the miniature sound card died. At that time I needed to replace the lens units as the plastic lenses were extremely worn so I just replaced the light assembly’s with a LED version of taillight. Fred
