Question:
Can the Velit Mini AC Unit VE69QV be installed in the rear window of my high roof Ford Transit? I don’t want to add more height to the van, and plan to have lots of solar up there in 6-12 months as I do lots of boondocking. Is the 49 lb weight of this Velit too much for the rear door hinge or structure? I have a new-to-me 2024 e-Transit, and almost 6 Kwh of Bluetti batteries. Adequate for eco mode on the Velit? Bluetti has a 12V outlet plus DC input ready for solar. The Transit is missing the back door window, passenger side. I am searching for someone near Ann Arbor/Detroit Michigan to install AC, hopefully in that large window. Thanks!

Hello Ingrid, thanks for reaching out, and congrats on the new camper!
The Velit 2000R Mini AC # VE69QV can only be installed horizontally. It can be installed on sloped roofs, but it must be less than 15 degrees. It cannot be installed vertically on a window or door since it relies on gravity to feed refrigerant thru the unit.
Since you’re trying to avoid adding roof height and want to keep that space open for solar, the Velit 2000U under-bench unit # VE56QV is honestly a much better fit for your goals. It mounts inside the van, so there’s no added exterior height, no strain on the rear door structure, and nothing interfering with future solar plans. It’s purpose built for vans and small RV conversions and works well for off-grid setups like yours.
With nearly 6 kWh of Bluetti capacity, you’re in good shape for running eco mode, even for extended periods. The under-bench design also keeps weight low and centered in the van, which is better for overall balance compared to hanging 49 lbs on a rear door.
If you are looking for an installer, we do have a few qualified installers not terribly far from your. Rolling Adventures RV in Swartz Creek is definitely worth checking with. I have provided a link to our installer locator below if you want to see the full list.
Any cool trips planned once you get everything set up? Any other upgrades or gear you were looking for?
