Recommended D-Ring Adapters for Flat Towing a 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor

Updated 02/14/2026 | Published 02/01/2026

Question:

I have a 2015 Winnebago Grand Tour and until recently we towed a 2014 Subaru Outback with the Roadmaster Nighthawk and BrakeMaster. We have replaced our Subaru with a 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor and I see two options available for a base plate. One is your Roadmaster Direct Connect base plate RM92ZR which requires some modifications to the factory bumper. The other is the Roadmaster D-Ring conversion 1inch thick RM-035-1. Both are indicated by your website as confirmed to fitinch but I believe I would prefer the D-Ring connection as it appears to preserve the factory look with the D-rings installed and it does not require any modification/cutting to the bumper. Im hoping to get your recommendation before purchasing in case I am overlooking something. Also, if you agree the D-Ring kit is the way to go how do you recommend connecting the safety cables from the Nighthawk? I watched one of your installation videos and I believe it showed routing some cables through the frame with a connection point beneath the front to connect the safety cables - do you sell these cables? And finally, the video I watched on your website also mentioned two different lengths available for the tow bar connector but I cannot seem to find the option on your website. The recommendation on the video was to get the longer of the two adapters. I have attached some photos below. Thank you very much for your advice and assistance.

Hey Kevin, congrats on the upgrade and thanks for the pics! The D-Ring Bumper Mounts item # RM-035-1 are definitely going to be the best option. They are compatible with the Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar item # RM-676 and will attach to the circle on your bumper's tow hooks/shackle. You'll want to attach the safety cables to the larger L shaped openings directly below the circle.

We do sell those cables you referenced, item # RM-910648-20, however you won't need them. Your Bronco's bumper has everything you need to connect directly to it.

There's a smaller version of the D-Ring Bumper Mounts item # RM-035-1. It won't work for your setup if that's what you saw mentioned in a video.

How far from the ground is your Winnebago's hitch and do you have a high/low adapter? Going from a Subaru to a Bronco is going to be a pretty large jump in height. You'll most likely need a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level with your Bronco.

I bought these 'D' ring mounts to use on an aftermarket steel bumper I installed on my gladiator. They come with stainless steel inserts to make the hole in the bumper D ring mount a little tighter. I live in the midwest with lots of salt in the winter and so far after two years no rust on the inserts. I'm very happy with the product and highly recommend it and I would buy it again. I really appreciate all the DIY helpful videos you all produce and it's one of the many reasons I've been a recurring customer of yours for years. Thanks and keep up your great work. Casey

I have a Bronco and use this setup. It works perfectly and I also can tow my Jeep TJ without any changes to the towbar. As mentioned just be aware of the height difference between your vehicle and Motorhome as you may need to adjust for the higher Bronco connection point. etrailer is a great company and all of their experts are professionals and fantastic to work with. @AnthonyV Hey Tony! Thanks for your response- it's great to know someone else is already using this configuration! What braking system are you using for your Bronco? Thanks again, Kevin

@KevinM Kevin, I use an older Brake Buddy that I had from towing my Ford Escape. It works fine once the sensitivity is set correctly for the Bronco's weight. Tony

Hey Jerred! Thank you for your thorough reply; you guys are fantastic! I will be ordering the RM-035-1. Regarding your question about the high-low adapter: I did not need one with my previous setup, but I was using your D-192 extension with an extra receiver to mount our bike rack. The center of the motorhome hitch is 18.5" and the circle in the Bronco's tow hook is 30.5" from the ground. Would your recommendation be your RM23SR with a 10" drop? Instead of the drop, I would need to mount it in the other direction to raise the connection 10". Are both receivers on the RM23SR rated for 10,000 pounds? On the D-192 only one of them is rated for towing and the other is only rated for hitch-mounted accessories such as the bike rack. Thanks again, Kevin

@KevinM You're welcome! Happy to hear you'll be ordering the D-Ring Bumper Mounts item # RM-035-1. Either receiver can be used for the tow bar on the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter item # RM23SR. Since you need the height adjustment and not the dual 2" receiver, the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter item # RM-048-10 would be a better option financially. It's got a 10-1/4" rise/drop and you're not paying for a second receiver you won't use.

@JerredH Sorry if my previous message wasn’t clear; I need the second receiver for a bike rack.

@KevinM Oh! Yeah there's no way to get the height adjustment you need for the tow bar to better line up with the D-Ring Bumper Mounts item # RM-035-1 and use your bike rack. Your tow bars going to need to use the top receiver of the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter item # RM23SR, which is why I suggested the item # RM-048-10 instead. If you're not planning on using a high/low adapter for the height adjustment you may as well stick with the Curt Dual Hitch Extender item # D-192 you have now. What bike rack do you have? You may be able to put it on the back of your Bronco.
