Question:

Hey, I’m not sure how much jump starter I actually need. I don’t want to overbuy and overcharge my batteries.

Hey Sam - that’s exactly the right mindset to have.

If you’re trying not to overbuy, the Projecta Intelli-Start 900A # VX95NR is a great option for everyday cars, small SUVs, and lighter-duty use like golfcarts and utvs. It’s compact, easy to keep in the vehicle, and still has the safety features and manual override you don’t get with a lot of cheap jump starters. It works with all types of 12v batteries, including lithium and agm.

On the other hand, if you want something with a little more guts for bigger vehicles and batteries - especially if there’s a truck in the mix or you might help others - the Projecta Intelli-Start 2,000A # VX23NR is the safer long-term pick. It handles standard 12V vehicles, adds 24V capability, and gives you more headroom for dead batteries.

It just comes down to whether you want small and simple, or maximum flexibility. The higher amperage one won't overcharge or hurt a smaller battery. It has built-in safety features to prevent issues like that.

What kind of vehicle and batteries are you planning to use it on most?

I had the same concern as Sam. I always thought bigger jump starters could damage smaller batteries, so this is good info.

@Mike Yeah, that’s a really common concern, Mike. The good news is these aren’t dumb chargers - the vehicle only pulls what it needs. The extra capacity is just there as a buffer for dead or stubborn batteries, not something that forces power where it doesn’t belong. It’s more about flexibility and peace of mind than raw output. One thing I will say is that the old school manual chargers that don't have safety precautions built-in can sometimes overcharge batteries. This isn't super common in jump packs, but I've seen batteries get overcharged and ruined with old school 120V AC chargers that plug into a garage/shop electrical outlet. Usually people crank the amperage up too high for too long. You won't have to worry about that jazz with these Projecta jump starters.
