Hi! I’m comparing Projecta jump starters to NOCO. Price aside, what’s the real-world difference?

Good morning Lisa! Yes these two brands come up a lot since they are both great quality, name brand options.

NOCO makes solid jump starters like the 1,250A # NOC48VR, but one big advantage of Projecta models like the # VX63NR 1,200A and # VX73NR 1,400A is how they handle charging. With Projecta, the unit can recharge itself from the vehicle’s battery + alternator after the jump, which dramatically reduces how often you need to plug it in.

Projecta also uses LiFePO4 batteries, which are more stable and longer-lasting than the lithium cobalt batteries used in many jump packs. That’s why Projecta units tend to hold a charge longer and tolerate storage better.

I mainly want something I can keep in my truck and not think about until I inevitably need it (I'm in MN so it gets cold). I’ve had cheaper jump starters die on me just from sitting too long. Does Projecta handle storage better than other brands? thanks andrew.

@TomS That’s a really fair concern, Tom - and yes, that’s one of the areas where Projecta tends to do better. The LiFePO4 battery chemistry is more stable for long-term storage, and since the unit recharges itself after a jump, it doesn’t get forgotten in a discharged state like a lot of cheaper jump starters do. This allows it to have a much longer lifespan! It’s still a good idea to check it occasionally if it hasn’t been used in a long time, but for something that lives in a vehicle and doesn’t get much attention, Projecta is definitely more forgiving than most budget options.
