Battery Jump Start Pack For Emergency Use That Can Fit In Glove Box Of 2019 Subaru Outback

Updated 02/05/2026 | Published 01/27/2026

Question:

Hey there! I’ve got a 2019 Subaru Outback and just want something small to keep in the car for emergencies. Is the Projecta 900A overkill, or is that about right?

Hey Megan! Hope your day’s going well - that charger is going to be great for emergency use!

For a Subaru Outback, the Projecta Intelli-Start 900A # VX95NR is actually a really solid fit. It’s designed for 12V batteries and gas engines up to 6.0L, so you’re well within its comfort zone. It’s also small enough to live in a glovebox or door pocket, which makes it more likely you’ll actually keep it with you.

Compared to a lot of cheaper jump packs online, the # VX95NR stands out because it has built-in safety protections and recharges itself after a jump using your alternator - so you’re not constantly worrying about plugging it in at home like many budget units. If you want a little extra margin, the 1,200A # VX63NR is the next step up, but for your Subaru, the 900A is a perfectly reasonable choice and is smaller.

Do you plan to leave it in the car year-round, or mostly use it seasonally for camping or winter trips etc.? We have had some folks tell us about their winter camping trips. It sounds fun but I don't have the means to do it right now haha.

That makes sense, thanks! I’d probably leave it in the car all year. Does it hold a charge pretty well if I don’t end up using it for months?

@Megan Great question, Megan - yes, that’s actually one of the nice things about these jump packs. They hold a charge very well in storage, and Projecta recommends just checking it about once a year if it hasn’t been used. Since it recharges itself after a jump, most people rarely have to plug it in at all if they are using it to jump a vehicle once or twice a year. If it’s going to live in the Outback full-time, it’s a really solid choice that will last a long time!
