Question:
Hi, Im trying to determine if either of the Dexter E-Z Flex kits will work on my trailer. The measurements Im getting dont seem to match either kit. Heres what Im measuring: Springs eye-to-eye: 25 3/8 Axle spacing center-center: 34 1/2 Hanger bolt spacing: 6 5/16 Hanger height: 4 The weight sticker is so badly faded I cant tell what the GAWR of the axles is, but some Internet research suggests they are 5200 lbs each. Given my axle spacing, Im thinking of trying the K71-653-00 kit, but the hanger bolt spacing is almost an inch more and Im wondering if that will work or not.

In order to find the correct equalizers that will work for your trailer you will need to take a few measurements of the equalizers you wish to replace. I have attached a drawing that shows what dimensions you will need.
Examples of typical measurements needed as noted on the attached drawing:
A = Length from center of left-most eye to center of right-most eye
B = Length from center of left eye to center of middle eye
C = Diameter of center eye hole
D = Diameter of left and right eye holes (always 9/16")
E = Height from center of bottom hole to center of top hole
After you have taken these measurements we can find the suitable replacement parts.
I have attached a photo of part # K71-653-00, you can check out and see if the dimensions noted will work for your trailer. These equalizers have a capacity for axles up to 8,000 lbs.
Another of the equalizers we offer is the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Equalizers, part # K71-652-00, and has the following measurements as the attached drawing shows:
Bolt hole diameters of 9/16 inch
From center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole 5-3/4 inches wide
From center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole 2 inches tall.
These equalizers have a capacity for axles up to 6,000 lbs.
Over time springs can stretch a bit so the measurement eye to eye may be a little longer than the springs needed for replacement. I have attached a link to our product page for leaf springs that measure 25-1/4 inches long eye to eye. On the left of the page is a menu that lets you choose the springs you need by axle capacity.
If you do not know the axle capacity on your Gulfstream you can find it in a couple of ways. You can tell the weight capacity of the axle by measuring the diameter of the axle. Here is a list that will show the axle weight capacity based on the axle diameter:
Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity
- 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
- 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
- 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
- 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
- 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
- 10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter
This would be the easiest way to find the weight capacity on your trailer axle. If you cannot determine the weight capacity by measuring the next step would be to measure bolt pattern on the hub, the size of your brakes, and your bearing part numbers. With this information we could narrow it down to what size axle you have on your trailer.
