Question:

Looking for truck camper steps. Have a 2001 Bigfoot camper these do not have a bumper but do have a basement, aka storage door offset under the main door. Current steps brophy I believe are not tall enough. Distance from bracket under door to ground is 47” and that’s on even ground. The brackets is 1” deep and 15 1/3 wide. Looking for some steps that don’t need a huge bracket stow and go bracket would not fit I do have room for up to 21” wide but am limited to the 1” depth. Also I can not see a way to get behind the camper stair mount location to install bolts. Looking for any suggestions you may have. Also would like them rated to 300lbs. Thanks.

Hey, John.

I'm finding it hard to locate some steps that are long and only 21" wide. The best I came up with is the TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Scissor Steps part # TLA7836. This step is for entry height between 46-1/2" - 58" tall. For the mounting bracket dimensions it'll need 23" wide x 19-1/2" tall x 8-1/2" deep.

The problem is the mounting bracket is too deep. The space between the bottom of the door and the basement door is very limited, the width of 23” could work but the depth of that mount is way to large. Looks like I will need to fabricate something.

@JohnJ Sorry that we don't have anything that will work for you, John. Most of the steps out there try to be similar to steps in a house hold so have gotten larger over time.

@GwendolynY Do you know the actual bracket depth. Just the part that connects to the camper not the entire bracket that is used to store the steps. Basically the part that screws into the camper. Looks to be about 4” in the picture. Thanks

I bought these to use in my Point Arena Lighthouse Museum as fire exit steps under the window, I installed one inside the Museum and one outside. Have thankfully never had to use them but they are easy to extend and were the right length to reach the window, which is about 4' from the ground.

I have this scissor step on my 2000 Bigfoot 10.6. They work ok but accessing the basement, I ram them off. Easy enough though. The only problem I have is the mounting bracket below the door. It seems to not attach well enough and thus pulls out. I need to use bolts with a big washer inside the basement. The steps work plenty good. I did purchase the extended handle though

@Dave I'm glad that you got them to work on your Bigfoot, Dave. Sounds like some modifications were in order but worked in the end. You mention needing to use some bolts because the pull out? Are they coming out while parked or when you're driving?

@GwendolynYwhen we have our scissor steps attached and are walking into the camper. I’m going to try to drill into the basement area of our Bigfoot camper at an angle so it goes into the storage space
