What Does ESCO Alarmed Breakaway Switch Green Light Mean

Question:

I just purchased a new fifth wheel trailer 2026 Rockwood 372RL with this brake control. It has a very bright green light on the brake controller. I have not been able to find a manual for this switch. Does the green light mean that everything is good? Thanks, Thomas

Hi Thomas; the green light on the # ES34FR indicates it has power and is ready to go. When you pull the pin it should switch to red and sound the alarm so you know the breakaway is active.

Hey Thomas, how did things go with the ESCO breakaway switch on your Rockwood trailer? Did the light and alarm behave as expected when you tested the pin? Your update could make it easier for others checking their brake systems.

@RobinH Hi Robin, Thanks for the follow-up. Yes, the ESCO breakaway switch appears to be working properly. It continues to illuminate the whole campground with the power indicating green LED unless the coach battery is turned off. I'm convinced that this is an unnessary battery drain and a nuciance to myself and other campers. I am planning to replace it with a unit that uses power only when the emergency braking is needed (which I hope is never). A replacement appears to be only about $25 and an easy task. I can test it as part of my planned maintenance without the nusciance of the "24/7 flood light". I observed at the Tampa RV Super Show and the Atlanta Camping and RV Show that all Rockwood and Flagstaff fifth wheel campers have the same breakaway switch with the bright green light. @ThomasP I'm sure any drain is minimal, but also I don't really think those features are necessary. If you swap it out I would consider the Fastway # FA80-00-2060. The coiled cable is really nice to have.
