Tire Chains For An All Wheel Drive 2015 Subaru Forester

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 01/06/2026

Question:

Two questions: Correct chain model for 225/55-18? And, can I use only one pair of chains on a 2015 Subaru Forester, or should I put chains on all four wheels to avoid damage to the 4WD system?

Hi Doug!

With your 2015 Subaru Forester being all wheel drive, you can run two sets (so all 4 wheels). This is typically the recommendation with all wheel drive vehicles, unless otherwise stated in your owner's manual.

I see you ordered the Titan Chain Low Profile Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Twist Links - Manual Tensioning - 1 Pair # TC1142, which is a good choice. The only thing is, you really want to also get something like the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster # TCMA1. These keep the chains tighter on your tires and will make sure they don't whip around and cause damage to the wheel wells.

Where are you headed where you are going to need tire chains?

Hey Doug, how did the Titan low-profile chains work out on your Forester once you added the rubber adjusters? Your update could make it easier for others with all-wheel-drive vehicles to choose the right setup.
