Looking For A Suspension Enhancement For My 2002 Chevy With A Truck Bed Camper

Updated 12/03/2025 | Published 12/01/2025

Question:

2002 silverado 2500hd diesel. Firestone air bags. Bilstein shocks. Oversized rear swaybar. Heavy cabover camper. What would improve my suspension the most to manage this camper load - sway, bounce, and porpoise? The RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit Or the torklift lower leaf spring kit? Thanks, Alex

Hey Alex,

I am assuming the airbags, shocks etc.. you already have on the vehicle. I would recommend going with the RoadActive Suspension kit # RAS4611 for your vehicle. These are going to do a great job of tackling the handling and sway when driving with that camper. These won't tackle sag as much as airbags would, these are more focused on improving the ride quality and handling when using that camper. The Torklift kit is also a good option, just in my experience and feedback I have heard the RoadActive has provided a much better ride.

What kind of camper are you running back there?

Thanks for the reply. The cabover is a 2002 Adventurer. The air bags level it up but it bounces on the bags and at times porpoises a little at freeway speeds - like a little continuous bounce.... especially when running without full tanks. So I guess I would be running the RoadActive Suspension kit # RAS4611along with the airbags then?

@Alex I would go with the RoadActive kit along with those airbags. They work together and that is going to give you a much better ride. Those Adventurers are nice I have been looking into those for a while now but haven't pulled the trigger.
