Question:

I’m using a trunk-mounted bike rack on my 2025 Honda CR-V, but it feels unstable with two heavier bikes. is a hitch the best option or what? thank you don't really care what I need to do, just want to be safe.

Absolutely, Megan - switching to a hitch-mounted rack with the TowSmart 2" trailer hitch receiver # TS67ZR is the safest move. Trunk racks can shift under heavy loads or damage paint, especially on newer SUVs with soft tailgate panels. Also, most roof racks aren't rated high enough for more than a couple 35lb bikes.

This hitch gives you the standard sized 2-inch receiver with 675 lbs tongue weight capacity, so it’ll handle even two heavy bikes on a platform rack with no issue. Plus, installation is fully bolt-on, no drilling or trimming required.

And if you ever decide to tow a small trailer, grab the T-One Wiring Harness # 118741 and Ball Mount Kit # 989891 - everything plugs right in.

What type of bikes do you have? Ebike, fat tire bike, bikes with fenders? This will help me recommend a compatible bike rack to fit the hitch. For example, the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 bike rack # RKY10004 is a very popular option that works with bikes up to 60lbs each.
