Can I Install Rooftop Tent On Fas-Top Jaybar Ladder Rack While Topper Shell & Tonneau Are Installed?

Question:

Can I run a rooftop tent on the JayBar FT97MJ if it’s mounted to a Fas-Top FT48RV on my 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 6-1/2' bed?

Hey Nate, good question. The Fas-Top JayBar # FT97MJ mounts into the Traveler tonneau/topper combo # FT48RV rails on your 2025 Sierra 1500 6-1/2' bed and can handle about 500 lbs evenly distributed, so it’s structurally capable of supporting most rooftop tents, including two campers inside.

That said, the JayBar uses fixed-position crossbars, not adjustable ones. The ¼? T-slot channels fit standard tie-downs, lighting, and awning brackets, but before mounting a rooftop tent it’s a good idea to check your tent’s bracket spacing against where the JayBar crossbars sit on the truck. If your tent requires a specific spread, you might find an adjustable rack system like the Thule TracRac # TH43002XT-501 gives you more flexibility for positioning.

If you’re planning a full overlanding build, the JayBar Side Bars # FT98GJ are worth adding for lights, awnings, or recovery gear.

Where do you plan to camp first - local trails or something longer out west?

Thanks! That helps. I’ve got a CVT Mt. Shasta tent that needs a certain distance between the bars. Do you know what the JayBar’s spread actually is?

@Nate Good question, Nate - the JayBar’s crossbars are spaced quite a bit wider, as it mounts just behind the front bed rail, and just in front of the tailgate for the other crossbar. That’s perfect for kayaks and some long roof baskets, and should be fine for most tents, but you'll need to measure just behind the front bed rail, and just in front of the tailgate. This will give you a good idea of what the crossbar spread will be and compare to what your tent needs.
