Recommended Smart Plug 50amp RV Power Cord to Work w/a 30 amp 240V Generator

Updated 12/02/2025 | Published 11/03/2025

Question:

Hello. What would you recommend to hook my 240V 30A inverter generator into the smart plug 50 inlet? Just bought a used 2019 ATC 2419 trailer and will be changing out the current 50 inlet to the smartplug. I want a good way to use my generator when needed. Thanks.

Hey Pat, congrats on your new trailer. Since you're converting over to a 50 Amp SmartPlug RV Power Inlet like item # SM56FR, you can use the SmartPlug Marine Power Cord Adapter - 50 Amp Female to 30 Amp Male Twist Lock Connector item # SM43VR

This 4' adapter lets you connect your 50-amp SmartPlug cord to a 30-amp twist lock. It is only rated to 125 volts though.

We also have the SmartPlug RV Power Cord - 50 Amp - 30' item # SM86FR and the Angled RV Power Cord - 50 Amp - 30' item # SM54SB. You would also need to use the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Generator Adapter item # A10-G30350VP to connect to a generator with one of these 50 amp cords.

Do you have any fun trips planned yet to break in the new camper?

Hey Pat, how did things go connecting your 30-amp inverter generator to the new SmartPlug inlet on your trailer? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar power connection.

Actually I haven’t done anything yet with the generator. Had to get the main power fixed first and it’s done now. First trip is hopefully on march to Arkansas and Texas.
