Recommended Camper Tie-Downs for a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually w/a 8' Bed

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 10/27/2025

Question:

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually with an 8 ft bed. We want to put a Big Foot 10.2 on it to just transport it to our son who lives about 6-7 hours from us. Knowing this isn’t a permanent set up, do you feel we would be safe using the Happijac LC182910-182971 to transport it?

Hey Kim. The HappiJac Camper Tie-Downs item # LC182910-182971 are going to work great on your 1997 Dodge Ram 3500. These will be safe for on going use so they will definitely work on a quick trip. They are confirmed to fit the 8' bed dually models of your truck.

You will also need turnbuckles to secure the camper to the tie-downs. We've got a couple options that I have listed below:

HappiJac Qwik-Load Turnbuckles item # LC182895 for a quick attach/detach option

HappiJac Original Turnbuckles item # LC182898 for a more traditional style that requires hand tightening

What kind of truck does your son have and does he already have camper tie-downs?

Hey Kim, how did the trip go with the Big Foot camper on your Ram 3500 using the HappiJac tie-downs? It’d be great to know if the setup felt secure for the drive. Your feedback could help others planning a short transport like yours.
